Current research

To elucidate the network of the antennal lobe, it will be important to know the numbers and the physiological / immunohistochemicalcharacteristica of involved cellular players.
The currently available data on numbers of local interneurons and projection neurons in the honey bee antennal lobe are based on thorough investigations undertaken with conventional histochemical methods and light microscopy (Suzuki 1975, Witthöft 1967; Witthöft, 1979). To update these numbers I am combining immunhistochemical labeling with mass fills of specific neuron groups (OSNs, PNs). Confocal data from these preperations are analyzed using the image analysis tools of the AMIRA software.
