Current research
In Drosophila olfactory information that is gathered in olfactory receptor neurons (ORNs) situated in the antennae or the maxillary palps, enters the antennal lobe (AL) network via ORN axons and is synaptically transmitted to projection neurons (PNs), the output neurons of the antennal lobe. ORN responses to odor stimuli are presynaptically modulated by lateral connections of the AL network. I use several genetic approaches and Ca-Imaging of the antennae and the AL to further investigate the mechanisms and effects of these modulations.
