Undergraduate university studies (Mathematics and Biology) at the Freie Universität Berlin 1986-1989 (Germany).

Ph.D. in Zoology at the University of Cambridge (U.K.) 1990-1993.

Postdoc at the Max-Planck Institute for Developmental Biology (with Chr. Müller) in Tübingen 1993-1995 (Germany).

Postdoc at the Freie Universität in Berlin (with Randolf Menzel) 1995-2002. 

Research Group Leader (Nachwuchsgruppe Volkswagenstiftung) at the Freie Universität Berlin 1999-2005. 

Habilitation 2002 (Zoology) at the FU Berlin. 

Associate Professor for Entomology and Entomologist at the Department of Entomology, University of California, Riverside (USA) 2003-2005. 

Professor for Zoology and Neurobiology at the Universität Konstanz since 2005.
