Drosophila melanogaster: responses to odor mixtures and their components

The following movies show odor responses of sensory neurons and projection neurons of Drosophila melanogaster measured in the antennal lobes. Neurons were labeled with the calcium sensor G-CaMP using the Gal4:UAS expression system. While responses to the mixture of 2-heptanone and 1-hexanol can be predicted from the responses to single odors in the sensory neurons, odor responses to the mixture are partially suppressed in the sensory neurons in glomeruli DM2 and DM5.

Films were acquired at 4 Hz. The red square on the upper left corner of each film indicates the time of stimulation. All movies are scaled to their individual minimum and maximum - see below for the color scale, where the black line indicates no fluorescence change.
